In this talk, Pastor Mark Toole discusses how to talk about sex in a way that glorifies God and honors those around us. This is a session on how to talk to your teens and children in a world of sexual and moral confusion. Parents and churches have to be talking about these things with our kids, because the world isn’t missing its chance to teach and train up in a sexually broken world.

What Are We Offering?
Working together with a training Center with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors (ACBC), and being a training center for the International Association of Biblical Counselors (IABC), our goal is to equip local church leaders and members with the foundations to be able to help or counsel someone in need. The Foundations course lays the groundwork for ministering the word in people’s lives.
The advance Course is for those who wish to build on that foundation and go deeper into certain topics and be introduced to some others.
Foundations Course Topics Include:
- Basics of Soul Care
- The Need for Biblical Counseling
- Process of Biblical Change
- Key Elements of Biblical Counseling
- Gathering Data
- Discerning Problems Biblically
- Giving Hope
- Secular and Integration Theories
- Marriage and Family
- Guilt and Repentance
- Forgiveness
- Trials and Suffering
- Fear and Worry
- Anger
- Depression
- Sexual Sin
- Medical and Physical Concerns
- And many more!
Advanced Course:
(For those who have taken track 1 with us or another training center)
The purpose of this course is to build on the foundations with different specific topics, especially those relevant to our specific regional context. We cover a variety of topics from ministering those dealing with pain, abuse, eating disorders, struggling to see God in everyday life, and more. We will also have a few sessions in which we try to provide specific tools, building on the foundations but not covered in that course.
There will also be a time for case study review and discussion. The topics covered are beneficial to every person, whether a formal counselor or not.
For those pursuing certification with the Association of Certified Biblical Counselors or the International Association of Biblical Counselors, this conference will satisfy the Track #1 requirements.
If you are interested in being a sponsor for this event, please contact Andrew Gordon (pastorandrew@winfieldbaptistchurch.com) or Chris Moles (gracecma@yahoo.com).

Life Groups
Andrew Discipleship, Life Groups 0 Comments
On Sunday nights this fall, we will be starting life groups back up. This is our small group ministry aimed at walking through the Christian life together as we seek to apply God’s word to our lives and walk more closely with Jesus.
The groups meet at 6pm in various places in the area. The discussion is centered around that morning’s sermon in which we try to go deeper and apply it to our specific lives with the encouragement and support of the group. Life groups are a great way to develop deeper relationships with other believers and to learn from others who are going through similar ups and downs in life as you.
Groups start Sunday August 20. You can sign up using the Sunday bulletin insert or by emailing Pastor Andrew: pastorandrew@winfieldbaptistchurch.com
If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Wednesday Night Bible Study
Andrew Bible Study, Discipleship 0 Comments
As you may know, starting August 30, Awana and Winfield Baptist University will start up in full swing. One of the exciting options for married couples of all ages is the PREP Marriage enrichment course taught by Pastor David. You can get signed up for that the next couple weeks through the Sunday bulletin insert. All the info is there. There is a small fee, and the class is limited so get signed up today.
Another great opportunity comes in our chapel Bible study. Pastor Andrew will be leading the study through Colossians. As a supplement to that study, we are encouraging those who are going to attend the chapel to go through the Colossians Journible.
If you haven’t used one before, the concept of a Journible is very simple. You write out the passage for that day on one side of the page and write your own study notes on the page across from the verses. The Journible includes a few questions to help you think through your study as well.
It will take us 12 weeks, Lord willing. Each week we will be going through the same passage that will be taught on Wednesday nights in order to enhance what each person gets out of the study and can share what you’re learning as well. The church will provide the passage schedule, a more thorough explanation of the Journible to help you make the most of your study, as well as some Bible study strategies. If you would like your own copy of the Journible, they cost $9 a piece (we know that many of you can handle that cost, but if that is a problem for you, please talk to one of the pastors).
Unlike the Mark Journible, smaller books like Colossians are grouped with other books as well. So if you order the Journible, you will get Galatians through 2 Thessalonians (6 books!). If you like the exercise with Colossians, you’ll have several possible books to try out when you’re done!
We will order the Journibles in time to get them by the 30th. There is no need to sign up if you want to follow along the Journible plan without buying the book. The schedules will be available at church. Please sign up using the bulletin insert this Sunday or email Pastor Andrew if you would like us to order you a Journible.
pastorandrew@winfieldbaptistchurch.com
You are not required to go through a Journible to join us on Wednesday nights. We just want to offer you another tool to help you take another step in your Bible study.
Click here to check out more info on Journibles.
Please don’t hesitate to ask questions.

Don’t Wait Until January: Let’s Read the Bible Together!
Andrew Bible Study, Discipleship 0 Comments
By Andrew Gordon
My current Bible reading plan is going to be complete this week. No, that doesn’t mean I read through the Bible in six months. It means I failed to read through the whole Bible in 2019 and needed half of 2020 to finish! I imagine many of you are like me and struggle to keep after a disciplined plan.
I’ve noticed the following things about myself over the years. See if you can relate:
Since we all need help, let’s help each other!
The Plan
My favorite reading plan is call the Discipleship Journal Bible Reading Plan. It has you read from four sections of scripture each day from each of the following four categories:
You’ll get a taste of how the whole Bible fits together and experience a variety of scripture each day. Each month only has 25 reading days, meaning we get catch-up days every month.
Encouragement
Most of us struggle going from 0 to 60 with a reading plan. In fact, ramping up to reading the Bible even 15-20 minutes a day from zero minutes can prove to be unsustainable. Gradual increase over time will help you develop discipline. Here are some ways to do just that:
God never told us to read his word through once every year. But he did say to meditate on it day and night (Psalm 1:2) and to hide it in our hearts (Psalm. 119:11).
Let’s Do This
On July 1, I plan to start this reading plan on “day one.” I’m inviting you to come with me. We are better together. I will set up a private Facebook group for us to discuss what we are learning and encourage each other to stay on track. If you want to be a part of the group you can email me to let me know (pastorandrew@winfieldbaptistchurch.com). You can follow along with the reading plan in several ways. On the Bible app, search for Discipleship Journal Reading Plan. Or click here for a PDF version. Start with January to make sure you start at the beginning!
There’s more to Bible study than simply reading through it. But by reading through it, we can get the big picture of what God is doing. Come check out the view with me.
Blessings,
Pastor Andrew
